The IU Math Department's Directed Reading Program pairs undergraduate math majors with graduate student mentors for discourse on specialized topics, structured much like reading courses. The undergraduate mentees present midterm and end-of-semester talks on their reading.Â
I was a mentor in Fall 2020.
The IU Laboratory of Geometry is a recurring, semester-long collaboration between undergraduate math majors and math graduate students. Graduate students propose projects whose goals are to develop ways to visualize ideas in geometry, topology, and dynamics. During the first half of the semester, undergraduate students learn the theoretical backgrounds for their projects. In the second half of the semester, they use a variety of programming languages and software to visualize those ideas. The undergraduates present midterm and end-of-semester talks on progress they've made.
In Spring 2021, Vinicius Ambrosi and I led a group studying fibered knots. By the end of the semester, our group had developed code in Mathematica to visualize and 3D-print torus knot fibrations.
